About the Program

"Little League Baseball For Kids With Disabilities"

Springfield Challenger is Little League Baseball for boys and girls, ages 4 – 21, who have any special needs that preclude them from participating in a mainstream Little League program. Beginning in 1993 with nine ball players, Springfield Challenger will register over 200 players as we enter our 15th Season.

Springfield Challenger Baseball offers your player an opportunity to participate in baseball, regardless of skill level—we tailor the game to your child’s abilities. We don’t count strikes and we don’t count outs. Everybody scores each inning and everybody wins. Each player gets the opportunity to play defense, bat and score each inning. Being on the field is just one of the benefits resulting from playing Challenger Baseball--socialization skills, friendship, and a feeling of success are also recognized. Challenger is a two or three-inning non-competitive game played on Sunday afternoons. For families, we offer camaraderie with other parents and siblings and a chance to cheer your special player and his or her teammates. All players will receive uniforms each season and trophies at the end of the season. We also offer Team Picture Day and a League picnic. The highlight of each season is our annual trip to Virginia Beach for the Virginia State Challenger Fun Tournament. Our Fund Raising programs, league sponsors and private donations allow Springfield Challenger to take as many families as possible to the Tournament.

Springfield Challenger is divided into TWO Divisions which allows for better player development and especially with socialization:

Our program adapts to everyone’s needs and abilities with Two Divisions. There are special circumstances that allow some teens to participate in the Little Challenger Division, but we ALWAYS leave that decision up to the parents. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. We will also do everything that we can to accommodate your special requests. Give us a call and we look forward to seeing you down at the fields.
